While many parents/guardians travel to Boston with their child(ren) to accompany them throughout check-in, this is not a requirement and some students opt to travel to their program independently.
Below are some tips for those traveling to Berklee as a minor (under 18 years of age).
-
All major US airlines have policies in place related to flights for “unaccompanied minors,” and they may charge a separate fee for unaccompanied minors to fly. We recommend that parents/guardians check with the airline before booking a flight to determine what requirements may apply to your minor.
-
Hotels across the city of Boston typically have policies in place that bar minors from checking into their hotel alone. We recommend calling hotels prior to booking to confirm that minors are permitted to check in alone, or trying to book travel that would not require overnight accommodations prior to the start of your program.
-
Berklee is unable to house students of any age on campus prior to the start date of their program. We recommend arranging travel to occur on the morning of the start date of your program, either during the beginning of your check-in period or prior to the start of your check-in period. In the event that you are unable to travel to campus and arrive before your check-in window, we recommend arranging overnight off-campus accommodations for all pre-program arrivals. Program-related activities typically begin within one hour of your check-in window.
- Berklee is unable to extend a student's stay on campus after the end date of their program. We recommend arranging travel to depart towards the end of the last day of the program. For evening check-out times, there are usually program-related activities scheduled up until two hours prior to the check-out time listed on each individual program page's move-out time, where applicable. For example, if your check-out time is listed as 7 PM, there are typically program-related activities scheduled up until 5 PM. Specific details of your program's arrival Arrival and Move-out Date/Time can be found on your program's page. You can find links to all program pages via our All Programs web page. All early departures will need to be approved by the program's director(s), as most final showcases and performances occur on the final day of the program.
