Curfew Policy
For Minors (Ages 15, 16, or 17)
Curfew Time: The curfew for minors in campus residence halls is set at 10:30 PM, effective seven days a week. Even if a minor turns 18 during the program, the 10:30 PM curfew still applies.
Curfew Check Obligations: Students must be physically inside their assigned residence hall room, specifically behind the threshold of their door, by 10:30 PM for the nightly curfew check. Students must remain inside their residence hall room until the curfew check has been completed. Berklee-issued IDs must be presented to staff when they arrive for the check.
Post-Curfew Activities: Once the curfew check is completed, students may leave their rooms but must remain within their assigned residence hall area until 7:00 AM the following morning. Leaving the residence hall area—including going downstairs to the entrance area where a security guard is stationed—is prohibited and will be considered a violation of the curfew policy, resulting in disciplinary action.
Staff Compliance and Disciplinary Actions: Students are expected to comply with Berklee staff during the curfew checks and treat them respectfully. Violations, including non-compliance or disrespectful behavior, may result in disciplinary actions up to and including removal from the program.
Curfew Exemption Requests: Curfew exemptions can only be determined by senior-level Summer Programs staff and require advance notification. Last-minute curfew exemption requests will not be considered. To request an exemption, parents or guardians must fill out a form at least seven days in advance. This form can be obtained by emailing summer@berklee.edu.
Parental or Guardian Exceptions: If a parent or guardian temporarily removes the student from campus, the student is still required to return to their room by the 10:30 PM curfew. No exceptions based on parental discretion will be considered valid.
Notification of Special Circumstances: For any extenuating circumstances requiring a student’s absence that would affect curfew compliance, parents or guardians must inform senior-level Summer Programs staff through the official exemption request process as detailed above.
Residence Hall Assignments: Students are only allowed within the residence hall buildings to which they are assigned. All students, regardless of age, are required to sleep in their assigned rooms.
For Non-Minors
Students 18 and older residing in non-minor designated residence halls are not subject to a curfew.
For Non-Residents
The curfew policy does not apply to students living off-campus as they are not permitted in the residence halls.
Disciplinary Actions
Please note that failure to comply with the curfew regulations above will result in disciplinary action, up to and including removal from their Summer Programs without refund or credit.
